A key Barcelona player has been ruled out of the club’s huge Champions League clash with Bayern Munich next week.

Bayern Munich vs Barcelona

Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona are set to go head-to-head in a Champions League encounter on December 8th.

Bayern Munich head into the game sat top of their group and a full eight points clear of second place. As a result, the German outfit have already secured passage into the knockout rounds and 1st place in Group E.

This means that the game is of little importance to Julian Nagelsmann’s side. However, for Barcelona, the tie is huge.

Xavi Hernandez’s team do head into the meeting sat second in Group E. But 3rd place Benfica are only two points behind them heading into the final set of group fixtures.

So, should Benfica see off Dynamo Kyiv, which seems likely as the Ukrainian outfit have not won a CL game this term and have scored just one goal, and Barca fail to beat Bayern, then Barcelona would actually end up finishing 3rd in their group – condemning them to a season in the Europa League.

Barcelona star out of Bayern clash

As a result, the Spanish powerhouse will be desperate to field as strong a squad as possible on Wednesday.

However, as mentioned above, they are set to be without one key star for the game.

As reported by Spanish outlet RAC1, Ansu Fati has not yet recovered from his current injury – believed to be a hamstring problem – in time to face Bayern:

Fati has scored four and assisted one in eight games for La Blaugrana this term. Will they be able to cope without him?
