The agent of Cristiano Ronaldo has put his client forward to Paris Saint-Germain as the perfect replacement for Kylian Mbappe next summer, claims a report in Spain.
Ronaldo has come under criticism from some quarters recently with his pressing qualities questioned. But there is no doubting his importance to United as he scored twice against Arsenal to fire Michael Carrick’s men to a 3-2 win. It was Carrick’s last game in charge.
The former England star announced afterwards that he was leaving the club and would not be part of Ralf Rangnick’s backroom team. Rangnick insisted he wanted the 40-year-old to stay, but Carrick thought the time was right to leave the club.
Carrick had started Ronaldo in two of his three games in charge. And the Portuguese star predictably delivered with a goal against Villarreal and a brace to sink the Gunners.
Whether Rangnick will afford 36-year-old Ronaldo the game time Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Carrick afforded him is unclear. However, Ronaldo is expected to take on a bigger role defensively under the tutelage of Rangnick.
The 63-year-old German, as the report outlines, “has always been committed to very young players, who can have an economic impact on the club in a future sale”.
Just how that will sit with Ronaldo and his entourage is yet to be ascertained. Of course the vastly-experienced Rangnick who shaped the future of RB Leipzig, may well make an exception for Ronaldo. And considering his 12-goal haul this season that option is a distinct possibility.
But already Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is making plans.
Ronaldo and Messi at PSG?
El Nacional reports that Mendes has offered his client to PSG to replace Mbappe. Of course Mbappe remains at the Parc de Princes for now.
His contract expires in the summer and Real Madrid made two unsuccessful bids for him in the summer.
One thing is for sure, Mbappe will not pen another contract with the Ligue 1 side. And Real look favourites to land him.
If that proves to be the case then Mendes wants his man to link up with Lionel Messi in France to fill the void. Mendes is desperate to unite the two footballing icons before they call time on their careers.
Ronaldo, who went past the 800 career-goal mark against Arsenal, is under contract at Old Trafford until 2023 with the option of another year.
