FPL owners with potential Cornet crisis

FPL owners will be left frustrated after key Burnley forward Maxwell Cornet was subbed off during the first half against Newcastle at St.

James’ Park.

The influential Ivorian and summer signing has hit the ground running for Sean Dyche’s Clarets this season, constituting the only bright spot in a side that currently sits in the bottom three despite their recent embarkation on a five-match unbeaten run (1-4-0).

Cornet has been in good form in 2021-22, netting five goals in just eight league appearances thus far, and should his injury see him miss any considerable time on the pitch, it could push Burnley closer to relegation.

Selfishly, FPL bosses may now be stripped of one of the more affordable midfield options they can tap into every week, with Cornet’s 44 points and relatively low price of 6.1 will leave quite a handful of owners frustrated.

Burnley struggling despite unbeaten run

A key clash against Newcastle highlighted the situation Burnley finds themselves in this season as the Clarets sit in the bottom three but with a hope of clawing their way outside the drop zone with a win.

But at the time of writing Sean Dyche’s men are 1-0 down against Eddie Howe’s Magpies as the Tyneside outfit search for their first win of the 2021-22 campaign in what is an early season-defining clash between two clubs that continue to get the fine margin calls wrong.

Despite their five-match unbeaten run which has frustrated the likes of Wolves, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea, a lack of goals and creativity remains the biggest issues that have taken up residence at Turf Moor for a number of seasons now.

For a side capable of grinding out results against top-half opposition this season, more must be expected in the attacking-third if they have any hope of avoiding the drop this season.
